Halloween 2011

Ah Halloween.
The girls were so excited about the arrival of this day. We crafted and decorated and planned and costumed. Sadly the girls learned that expectation doesn't always match reality when only one house on our street gave out treats. The rest refused to open their doors, or yelled that they had nothing. Wow, way to go neighbours.
I guess that put people off trick or treating too, as only one group made it up our end of the street. At least they were very impressed with our decorations and treats.
Poor little Sienna was crushed, and cried herself out, clutching her one lonely chocolate treat. I made her a 'boonilla' shake and she was able to dig into our leftover candy, so the smile was back on her face by nights end. Here's some pics from the last few days, I can't figure how to turn them the right way, so sorry for the crick in your neck!
(PS, I made the Red Riding Hood cape, clever me, yes?)
(PPS, I am aware of the irony of the Big Bad Wolf wearing a vegetarian hoodie, but it's my fave, okay?)

I love all the effort you and your girls went to to dress up and decorate. They looked great! Sad that no one on the street wanted to play too. In the US some people will pack their kids in the car and drive them to a better street (more kids) and take them up and down few of them. They park and walk the kids of course. I never understood why they might do this until now. I just assumed the kids wanted more candy when I saw them.

Thanks Susan :-) Next year we'll come and see you for those lollipops :-)

Very true E, we might have to look at going elsewhere, or maybe just driving around to friends and family. It wasn't at all about the candy for our girls, they have more than enough of that usually, they just wanted people to see their costumes and interact with them.

Awww, poor Siena! All that wonderful preparation and build up and those lanterns are absolutely gorgeous!

We had to write 'Happy Halloween' with chalk on our driveway and hang a mask out otherwise we never get any, because of our long drive-way. Thankfully, we live near a school and a lot of family homes so we did have lots of children dressed up stopping by.

Charlotte went trick or treating with a friend in a different neighbourhood and there are definitely 'known' streets here in Welly that are worth visiting - some get really 'into' it with decorated houses etc.

Maybe you could invite a few friends round and have your own special Halloween party next year? The costumes are AMAZING! BIG HUGS xx

Sounds like a plan Susan :-)

The Word Party

Loving words clutch crimson roses,
Rude words sniff and pick their noses,
Sly words come dressed as foxes,
Short words stand on cardboard boxes,
Common words tell jokes and gabble,
Complicated words play Scrabble,
Swear words stamp around and shout,
Hard words stare eachother out,
Foreign words look lost and shrug,
Careless words trip on the rug,
Long words slouch with stooping shoulders,
Code words carry secret folders,
Silly words flick rubber bands,
Hyphenated words hold hands,
Strong words show off, bending metal,
Sweet words call each other 'petal',
Small words yawn and suck their thumbs,
Till at last the morning comes,
Kind words give out farewell posies....
Snap! The dictionary closes.
