Day Two : Nigella's Mustard Pork Chops and Gnocchi

Nigella suggests that you serve the mustard pork chops with gnocchi, so first thing this morning Kyla and I made a batch of gnocchi. We then portioned it and froze it until we needed it this evening.

We cooked it just before we started on the pork, and kept it warm until just before serving. Here are the ingredients for the mustard pork chops.

2 pork chops
garlic oil
1 TBsp grainy mustard
1/2 C cider
1/4 C cream

Cut the fat off the chops and then bash them briefly, but brutally, with a rolling pin between two pieces of clingfilm to make them thinner.
Heat the oil in a heavy based pan and cook the chops over a moderately high heat for about 5 minutes a side. Remove to rest on a warmed plate.

Pour cider into the pan, still over the heat, to de-glaze the pan. Let it bubble away for a minute or so, then add the mustard and the cream, stir well.
Let the sauce continue cooking for a few minutes before pouring over each plated pork chop. If you are having gnocchi with it, make sure you turn them in the pan to absorb any spare juices before adding them to your plate.

Kyla discovered gnocchi for the first time, and tasted mustard. She is still really enjoying cooking the meals, she told me it was 'really fun' to cook.
As for Roger he loved the pork and sauce, but wasn't fussed on the gnocchi....give him a good ol' plate of mashed potato anytime he reckons! And nope, he didn't guess Nigella :P

Wow - gnocchi - VERY IMPRESSED!!! We had Logan's minestrone tonight from "Kids In the Kitchen" - 'cept I think it was mostly dad in the kitchen ;-) Can't wait for Day 3!

Wow, it looks very good indeed.

My children love gnocchi (not that we make our own) but I don't. There is something about the texture that makes me feel a little ill. But the dish Kyla has made looks very wonderful and I think I would be prepared to give them another go.

I am SO impressed that you made your own gnocchi!! Can you believe that I've never actually tried it before?? Now I think I have a pretty adventurous palate, but for some reason I just haven't ever bought/made/ordered gnocchi ... I will have to change that I think!
That pork looks SOOOO delish!

Yum Mich, sounds nice! Kyla does a lot of this by herself, but I cooked the chops as she doesn't like to deal with frying pan splatters :)

Thanks RB. Yeah, I think Rog was the same re texture. Nevermind, I'm gonna try the other half of the batch in a vegan meal, so I'll let ya know.

Thanks Hannah, it was SO SO SO easy. Potato, egg, flour. That's it! A pity he didn't like it really, we had fun making it.

i read in an italian mag that it is really hard to get the texture perfect, so i got scared off DIY.
might try it after reading of your success X

I'm extremely impressed by the gnocchi (actually--I'm pretty impressed at your loving willingness to handle the meat!)--I love it, but I've never even contemplated making it myself.
